Sunday special: Life is short yet we vex over problems.

As I promised, I will post every Sunday & festive seasons. :P

PROBLEMS! Yes, I have to admit we all have a plethora of problems present in our daily lives. Do we fight against it or with it? Do we deal with problems with composure or brute force? It all boils down to your patience. Imagine that you are an innocent infant trying to open the cap of a bottle. Instead of using plain force to break it open, by exploring the bottle and its possibilities, you can open the cap in time to come. And you might be able to discover extra benefits of the bottle itself. This applies the same to problems.

Most people would agree that one of the greatest sources of stress in our lives is our problems. To a certain degree, this is true. A more accurate assessment, however, is that the amount of stress we feel has more to do with how we relate to our problems than it does with the problems themselves. In other words, how much of a problem do we make our problems? Do we see them as emergencies, or as potential teachers?

Problems come in many shapes, sizes, and degrees of seriousness, but all have one thing in common: They present us with something that we wish were different. The more we struggle with our problems and the more we want them to go away, the worse they seem and the more stress they cause us.

Ironically, and luckily, the opposite is also true. When we accept our problems as an inevitable part of life, when we look at them as potential teachers, it's as if a weight has been lifted off our shoulders.

Think of a problem that you have struggled with for quite some time. How have you dealt with this problem up until now? If you are like most, you have probably struggled with it, mentally rehearsed it, analyzed it again and again, but have come up short. Where has all this struggle led you? Probably to even more confusion and stress.

Now think of the same problem in a new way. Rather than push away the problem and resist it, try to embrace it. Mentally, hold the problem near to your heart. Ask yourself what valuable lesson(s) this problem might be able to teach you. Could it be teaching you to be more careful or patient? Does it have anything to do with greed, envy, carelessness, or forgiveness? Or something equally powerful? Whatever problems you are dealing with, chances are they could be thought of in a softer way that includes a genuine desire to learn from them. When you hold your problems in this light, they soften like a clenched fist that is opening. Give this strategy a try, and I think you will agree that most problems are not the emergencies we think they are. And usually, once we learn what we need to learn, they begin to go away.

Chrismast eve special: Feelings

The much anticipated Christmas Eve has arrived! My sincere Yuletide greetings to all my readers. :D

To ensure that this Christmas period will be a happy stride into 2009, I will be discussing on how to keep your feelings composed.

You have at your disposal a foolproof guidance system to navigate you through life. This system, which consists solely of your own feelings, lets you know whether you are off track and headed toward unhappiness and conflict - or on track, headed toward peace of mind. Your feelings act as a barometer, letting you know what your internal weather is like.

When you're not caught up in your thinking, taking things too seriously, your feelings will be generally positive. They will be affirming that you are using your thinking to your advantage. No mental adjustment needs to be made.

When your experience of life is other than pleasant - when you're feeling angry, resentful, depressed, stressed out, frustrated, and so fourth, your warning system of feelings kicks in like a red flag to remind you that you are off track, that it is time to ease up on your thinking, you have lost perspective. Mental adjustment does need to be made. You can think of your negative feelings in the same way you think of the warning lights on the dashboard of your car. When flashing, they let you know that it is time to ease up.

Contrary to popular belief, negative feelings don't need to be studied and analyzed. When you analyze your negative feelings, you will usually end up with more of them to contend with.

The next time you are feeling bad, rather than getting stuck in "analysis paralysis," wondering why you feel the way you do, see if instead you can use your feelings to guide you back in the direction toward serenity. Don't pretend that the negative feelings don't exist, but try to recognize that the reason you are feeling sad, angry, stressed, or whatever is that you are taking life too seriously. Instead of rollaing up your sleeves and fighting life, back off, take a few deep breaths, and relax. Remember, life is not an emergency unless you make it so.

I've been accompanying my darling for the past week, so here's today's post. Frankly speaking, I'm pretty exhausted, so I'll just keep things simple yet mesmerizing, I'm very certain it'll etch in your mind for as long as you live. :X?

As I've experienced a great load of vicissitudes within a short frame of time, I've got a few learning pointers which I figured out. It's better to make a difficulty in life turn into a learning experience, this way we live life easier and we progress faster; preventing difficulties from impeding your progress in life is impossible, but solving difficulties one step at a time makes things easier.

These days, it seems that almost all of us are too serious. Even those of us who are committed to nonseriousness are probably too serious. People are frustrated and uptight about virtually everything - being five minutes late, having someone else show up five minutes late, being stuck in traffic, witnessing someone look at us wrong or say the wrong thing, paying bills, waiting in line, overcooking a meal, making an honest mistake - you name it, we all lose perspective over it.

The root of being uptight is our willingness to accept life as being different, in any way, from our expectations. Very simply, we want things to be a certain way but they're not a certain way. Perhaps Benjamin Franklin said it best: "Our limited perspective, our hopes and fears become our measure of life, and when circumstances don't fit our ideas, they become our difficulties." We spend our lives wanting things, people and events to be just as we want them to be - and when they're not, we fight and we suffer.

The first step in recovering from overseriousness is to admit that you have a problem. You have to want to change, to become more easygoing. You have to see that your own uptightness is largely of your own creation - it's composed of the way you have set up your life and the way you react to it.

The next step is to understand the link between your expectations and your frustration level. Whenever you expect something to be a certain way and it isn't, you're upset and you suffer. On the other hand, when you let go of your expectations, when you accept life as it is, you're free. To hold on is to be serious and uptight. To let go is to lighten up.

A good exercise is to try to approach a single day without expectations. Don't expect people to be friendly. When they are not, you won't be surprised or botherd. If they are, you'll be delighted. Don't expect your day to be problem free. Instead, as problems come up, say to yourself, "Ah, another hurdle to overcome." As your approach your day in this manner you'll notice how graceful life can be. Rather than fighting against life, you'll be dancing with it. Pretty soon, with practice, you'll lighten up your entire life. And when you lighten up, life is a lot more fun.

Feeling stress lately or before?

Surprisingly, , even with my school holidays in progress, students' are still experiencing high stress levels. Reason being? They're constantly sweating the small stuff.

Allow me to confabulate on this.

Often we allow ourselves to get all worked up about things that, upon closer examination, aren't really that big a deal. We focus on little problems and concerns and blow them way out of proportion. A stranger, for example, might cut in front of us in traffic. Rather than let it go, and go on with our day, we convince ourselves that we are justified in our anger. We play out an imaginary confrontation in our mind. Many of us might even tell someone else about the incident later on rather than simply let it go.

Why not instead simply allow the driver to have his accident somewhere else? Try to have compassion for the person and remember how painful it is to be in such an enormous hurry. This way, we can maintain our own sense of well-being and avoid taking other people's problem personally.

There are many similar, "small stuff" examples that occur everyday in our lives. Whether we had to wait in line, listen to unfair criticism, or do the lion's share of the work, it pays enormous dividends if we learn not to worry about little things. So many people spend so much of their life energy "sweating the small stuff" that they completely lose touch with the magic and beauty of life. When you commit to working toward this goal you will find that you will have far more energy to be kinder and gentler.

Yes, I do smoke; I’ve been smoking for a few months. Due to the cumulative effect of smoking exaggeratedly during the past few months, I’m now a deteriorated slump roaming the streets; don’t worry, I think I’m still attractive enough for you.

I’ve gotten a new girlfriend :P For those who’re really close to me, they’re the first to be acquainted with this news. Most of them just faint on sight or started to let off a string of expletives due to the SHOCK + TRAUMA caused to them.

Couples on Earth can never be defined through statistic but natural occurrence.

You can weigh the percentage of people on Earth with or without a religion. For me? I just mix all kinds of religion together; compiling things that are logical or worth believing in.

If God placed us on Earth for procreation and advancing the world into a better place, will He help us in terms of severe despair? Will he remove us like toys that are not feasible? Are we just mere experiments by Him to test his intelligence? Why have He not showed up until now?

A colossal amount of questions inundates my intricate mind. How do we deal with these questions? Most people choose to believe the masses and follow the popular. The minority are the ones who create the masses and rise to the highest elevation of human respect.

Are you the minority or are you the majority who are often forgotten when they pass away. Can you imagine a dissipating memory of yourself as you age without a continual worldwide recognition? When you die, you just vanish from the face of Earth. Is this what we are meant for? To live just to die.

Life is pleasant.

Physics test results was unfortunately, ridiculous. However, I’m impervious to failures which clearly elucidate my youthful insouciance. Therefore I will not explain further lest I become withdrawn and pensive; you never know.

Yelling never seems to work in life. I’ve got a mild lecture by my maths teacher because I skipped 15mins of her class? I had to take a breather; if only she knew I would die without resting. :X

Puerile acts of asinine kids manifest in my class; mainly the male species. It is true that guys mature much slower than girls, much to my chagrin. Probably guys are more sexually active which impedes their mind growth process. A pity yet a joy worth to honour.

The teachers are separating Jarrell and me in class, reason: too talkative. At least some decent teachers said we’re discussing about our school work. Adding on, my English teacher is very exasperating. She’s too sensitive when it comes to completing our assignments. Probably that’s the reason why the whole class have no respect for her. I deeply ‘sympathise’ her pathetic state. Lastly, a week without my maths teacher means a week without incessant assignments. A sign of relief; yet her assignments are so crucial to our results.

First of all, I've changed to this basic skin. I had enough of seeking desirable ones, so I'm settling with this for good.

Well, I didn’t attend classes today – had a splitting head ache in the morning? However, I made an effort to drag myself to Coral secondary for the English course in the afternoon. I met loads of people - enough to leave me only to remember the memorable ones.

The English Course:
Basically, it’s the best of the best of each school in terms of writing. Hai Sing reign supreme during this particular day; no doubt. However, they’ve this transvestite and a guy of a ‘qianda’ countenance. Both of them speak ridiculously fluent English. Trust me; you will be shocked by their basic speech. They’re the merely faulty descendents of William Shakespeare.

Speaking of Greenview, we totally won in terms of slacking. Well, at least we exude a strong era of ‘potential English scorers’.

Coral Secondary looks very young, with the modern and stylish interior, I just gasped in envy. But their restroom allocation is one of the worst in all schools. I can’t find a male restroom without following my human instinct and in the end – walking all over the school reluctantly. Overall, I can’t help but praise their school interior – I’m just praising their schools aesthetics, not the students.

Oh yeah, feeling a little embarrassed by my school uniform colour, I wore a jacket to cover the disgusting sight. If I don’t, people might mistake me for a green leaf, especially dangerous if the sweeper is in proximity.

That’s about it for my first day of the English course.
